This module is offered to students at levels 4,5,6,7 and responds to their linguistic and discipline specific needs in terms of grammar. Students joining this module are already at IELTS level 6.5 /7. This equates to B2/C1 on the CEFR framework, and Queen Mary currently benchmarks this to level 5/6 on the NQF framework. The module further develops knowledge and use of grammar which was started in the module Grammar in Context 1. The module content consists of the grammatical analysis of written texts which students currently read, or are expected to write, during their degree programmes. While these texts change according to the disciplines of the class, they include genres that students are likely to read or write during their degree programmes: research papers, academic articles, student essays, student exam answers, student dissertations and theses and text books. Grammar in Context 2 further develops work done in Grammar in Context 1, although this module is not a pre-requisite. Following a diagnostic test / needs analysis of the students' grammar learning status, the module then covers a selection from the following: - Consideration of the bases on which grammatical elements, categories, structures, processes and relations are selected and ordered - More demanding grammar practice based on authentic texts and using specifically designed tasks - Exploration of the grammar of semantic fields in relation to vocabulary empowerment.
