This module offers a comprehensive treatment of the different regulatory interests that lie behind regulation of international investments. It explores the role and policy goals of international investment law, as evidenced in theory and in investment rule making. It focuses on the relationship between investment promotion and protection and other regulatory interests, such as human rights and environmental protection, enabling students to critically reflect on the appropriate balance of (conflicting) public policy interests.
