The module will introduce the student to key areas of development in personalised medicine including nanotechnology, bioinformatics and structural biology. Together these disciplines are revolutionising the future of treatment regimes to transition medicine from disease-level plans to individual level planning. To illustrate the use of nanotechnology, the use and development of nanoparticles in medicine will be explored. Whilst the use of bioinformatics in medical research will have been covered in SNU305, here bioinformatics and structural biology will be illustrated to be instrumental in directing clinical developments. Further, the use of an individuals¿ genome sequence to improve the prediction of effective drug response and appropriate treatment selection, the basis of precision medicine, will be explored.
