Browse Hierarchy SNU303: Endocrine Physiology and Biochemistry
This module reviews the endocrine system and discusses both the physiological role of hormones and the underlying biochemical mechanisms involved in their actions. Beginning with definitions of hormones, the module examines their structures and the range of roles in the human body, considering receptors, affinity, hormone dynamics and hormone signalling. Students will learn about mammalian endocrine glands, including the pituitary, thyroid, adrenal glands and pancreas, and the hormones they produce. Students will learn to distinguish between paracrine and autocrine systems, and the role of hormones on cancer.
