The contents of this module will incorporate the study of viruses, bacteria, fungi and protozoans. The module is broadly divided into four components. The first of these provides an introduction to molecular clinical microbiology and molecular technology, before moving in the second part to the more applied aspects of molecular microbiology. In the third part of the module, students will learn about the molecular aspects of bacterial pathogenesis and infection. The module concludes with a section on the use of molecular biology in the prevention and treatment of infection.
