Browse Hierarchy SNU106: Basic Medical Genetics
This module aims to introduce key aspects of nucleic acid biochemistry, chromosomes, DNA damage and repair. The central dogma of DNA - RNA - protein (transcription and translation) is explored at a molecular level together with the seminal experiments that lead to our current understanding of DNA structure, organisation and function. The nuclear and mitochondrial genomes are both considered together with examples of nuclear and mitochondrial inherited genetic disease. Pedigree and karyotype analysis is introduced.
