This module will present contemporary research on play in animals, children and adults, focusing on psychological theories, especially during development. The module will also utilise an applied approach to studying how different psychological mechanisms may underlie playing different games, such as board, role-playing and video games, achieved by playing and discussing games in class. You will debate societal issues related to games, such as the role of video games in violence or game addiction, but also the positive effects of games.
