This module is designed to give students a scientific overview of psychopathology based on related theoretical frameworks and empirical findings and to critically evaluate the range of approaches in this field. The course will focus on the history of the classification and diagnosis of common mental disorders and will then focus on key common mental disorders including mood disorders (depression & bipolar disorder), anxiety disorders and schizophrenia. Psychological therapies will also be discussed. Students will develop an understanding of the symptoms and diagnoses across the mental disorders as well as the the risk factors and treatments used for common mental disorders.
