This module introduces students to some fundamental characteristics of the law of the European Union. It is divided into three parts, concerned respectively with how EU law is made, how it is applied and enforced and finally what it is used for. We will consider the historical development of the European Union, its institutional structure and its legal instruments, the interaction between Union and national law and the role of national courts in enforcing Union Law, the rules relating to free movement in the internal market and the legal principles underlying the relationships between the EU and its neighbours.
