Browse Hierarchy IPH7108: Research, Evidence and Policy

The module provides an introduction to the philosophy of science and debates about the nature of data and evidence from a public policy and applied public health perspective. It will use case studies to demonstrate the limitations of evidence, and to debunk the common misconception that there is a universal hierarchy of evidence. Instead, it will describe how different methods and different types of evidence are required to answer different policy questions.
