This module explores key themes in modern global history through a study of the 'Muslim World'. As Cemil Aydin has argued, the 'Muslim World' is a category that unites a vast geography and diverse body of people, stretching from Morocco to Indonesia and incorporating a global diaspora. In our lectures and seminars, we will explore how Muslim societies have forged cultural and political connections across borders in a context shaped by decolonisation, Cold War rivalries, American imperialism, climate change and more. Students will consider how debates over revolution, capitalism, democracy, feminism, art, heritage and more have enlivened and/or fractured ideas of the 'Muslim World'.
