How do we make sense of the overwhelming terror of climate collapse? This module will introduce various critical and creative works around Ecocriticism, Anthropocene Studies, Nature Writing, Animal Studies and Extinction Literature to show us the power of storytelling within climate crisis. The texts studied be genre-defying, interdisciplinary works, with a focus on how formal innovations are contextually formed through racial, colonial, or gendered connotations, alongside a consideration of their publishing lives. Through close readings, writing prompts and workshop, this module will provide generative and hopeful frameworks for our own writing.
