Browse Hierarchy EMS625U: Failure of Materials
Students will gain knowledge on the mechanical behaviours and failure criteria of engineering materials. Topics covered will involve plasticity, linear elastic fracture mechanics, fatigue and creep failure of a wide range of engineering materials (including polymers, composites, metals & ceramics). Students will interpret fractography of materials to determine the potential failure modes of materials. The module will use failure theory to predict the plastic yielding, brittle fracture, fatigue life and creep life for a wide range of engineering materials.
