This module is very industrially focused and starts to bring together the key constituent parts of chemical engineering education to understand how to design a complex chemical plant. The module links to core aspects of heat and mass transfer, separations, reactions and recaps on the design of key process equipment. Students will learn how to assess a process specification, how to simulate a chemical plant using process simulation software. The main element of the module will be a design project where each student must design and simulate a chemical plant to meet a process specification, assess their design and optimise it to improve efficiency and costs.
