This module provides an introduction to the discipline of Artificial Intelligence, providing an overview of the different subfields of Artificial Intelligence, main methodologies and the problems they solve. This module also gives an introduction to the different ethical and philosophical aspects of Artificial Intelligence, such autonomous decision making systems, and a description of the role of Artificial Intelligence in society, its applications and the position this discipline takes in different organizations and businesses. The syllabus includes: - What is Artificial Intelligence? - Overview of the main AI techniques, including: Expert Systems, Neural Networks and Deep Learning, Evolutionary Computation, Data Mining. - Common AI Applications: * Big Data and applications * AI for Insurance, Financial Services, Security and Blockchain * AI for Health - AI and Ethics, covering: * Machine Ethics * Artificial Moral Agents * Use of AI within Social Media - AI and Law, the legal frameworks around Artificial Intelligence. Additionally, this module will count on a substantial amount of industry talks from professionals that are knowledgeable of the use of Artificial Intelligence within their organizations, and also from researchers who apply AI to different disciplines such as Medicine, Dentistry or Biology (building from the strengths of QMUL.
