This module will study the causes and consequences of international trade flows. To this end, we will introduce the theoretical tools needed to understand why countries trade, which goods and services are traded, what are the gains from trade and how are they distributed, and why multinational corporations exist. We will also investigate the motivation for restricting or regulating international trade, as well as the substance of trade policy. The module will combine theoretical and empirical analysis, providing students with a strong grasp of the relevant data sets and how they can be used to understand the international trading system.
