This module will introduce the principles of Digital Communications and Networks including OSI Layers, digital data transmission and Information Theory. It will cover Shannon¿s theorem, source coding and channel coding techniques. Bearing IoT applications in mind, it will cover Personal Area Networks (PAN), Local Area Networks (LAN) and internet-working. Related concepts such as Wireless Broadband Access, IP Addressing, routing techniques and protocols (including ad-hoc routing) will also be covered.
