This module is designed to help students adjust to the academic culture of their departments at QMUL by helping them to avoid plagiarism by referencing effectively and structuring arguments skillfully. The modules focuses on how the student writer's 'voice' must emerge through effective argumentation while using credible sources as references. The module explores what is valued in writing, through a study of student writing and tutor feedback. Students read argumentative/analytical writing to familiarise themselves with how the writer's 'voice' emerges in academic texts of their discipline, thus enabling them to understand their role in constructing arguments in essays and how their voice, stance and opinion can be incorporated in an evidence-based academic essay.
