This module introduces the study of performance art in the 1970s -- arguably the first decade of its emergence as a major cultural phenomenon. You will learn about a range of internationally significant artists and groups active in the US, Europe, and elsewhere. You will explore key themes including presence, representation, disappearance, documentation and archives, as well as emotion, difficulty, and risk, towards a fuller understanding of the politics and aesthetics of performance art.
