This is a core module for all students enrolled on the BSc Accounting undergraduate programme and counts as an exemption against an ICAEW exam module at certificate level, the pass mark is 50%. This module introduces basic legal principles and concepts and enables students to understand the structure and organisation of the legal system in the UK. It is designed to provide students with an understanding of the principles of English law. Students will study the impact of Civil Law, Company and Insolvency Law, the impact of Criminal Law on business and accounting profession. Students will be able to identify other key areas in which the law affects the role and work of the accountant. NOTE: The non-standard pass-mark of 50% applies for each element of assessment within the module as well as the overall module mark.
